IMPULSE

Walchand College Of Engineering, Sangli.

Impulse is the very first mega event held in the college after welcoming the freshers every year. This event has got tremendous response not only from students of WCE but from other nearby colleges also. Held for the first time years ago, the event is built creatively and is made more interesting for participants.

This event was initiated to help students prepare for placement drives, competitive exams, etc. It took one step forward and became a university level event in 2008. Since then, the club has been raising its bar every year and have been conducting this event successfully.

Despite the pandemic scenario, IMPULSE was successfully carried out in online mode in the year 2021. Be it online or offline, this event helps participants to introspect their preparation and thus plan their way forward.

1. To check the aptitude level of participants

2. To judge the personality traits of participants

3. To enhance the EQ (emotional intelligence quotient) of participants

4. To boost participants’ self-confidence to succeed in the modern era of extensive competition.

This event is pretty similar to most of campus recruitment drives with some add-on phases to test one’s spontaneity, team-working ability and firmly presenting oneself. IMPULSE mostly consists of four to five phases which are described as follows:

1. Aptitude Test- IMPULSE Aptitude test, also known as the screening test, is one of the toughest aptitude tests held in the university. It covers the difficulty level of all the competitive exams and the campus screening tests held by the companies. One may refer to the question papers of the past years’ IMPULSE over here.

2. Communication Ability Round- All candidates who clear aptitude tests are eligible to appear for this round. In this round , group discussion or similar kind of activity will be carried out on a given topic. Here, the communication skills, general knowledge, spontaneity and various other parameters are examined. The candidates who clear this round are only allowed to appear for the next round.

3. Surprise Round- This round consists of surprise elements, specially designed and devised to check participants’ spontaneity, awareness and thinking ability. Qualification in this round marks the journey of participants till the very last round of IMPULSE.

[*In certain cases, as in the year 2021, phases 2 & 3 were combined as a single phase and the participants were examined accordingly.]

4. Personal & Technical Interview- In this round , Personal Interviews of all the candidates are carried out, while only the third year & final year participants are interviewed on their technical knowledge. Their competency , behavior, leadership qualities and various other parameters are examined . All candidates are supposed to come along with their resumes under this round.

5. Team Event- All the shortlisted candidates from the previous rounds are divided into six teams and a common problem statement is given to every team. For a team, All of its team members should work on the given problem statement and should come up with a formal report and presentation.

IMPULSE is mostly a 2-day event, where the first 3 phases are covered on Day 1 while the remaining phases are covered on Day 2. In most of the cases, a one week gap is provided between these two event days.

The participants excelling in different phases of Impulse are conferred with different awards like BEST APTITUDE PERFORMER, BEST PERFORMER OF SURPRISE ROUND, BEST HR FORM and the BEST TEAM. The one who is multi-talented and shows an all-round performance is awarded with the prestigious IMPULSIVE PERFORMER award.
